What is a German Meister worth in France?

A Meister is placed at level 6 of the German framework, the same level as a bachelor. France has no single counterpart, which is where the confusion starts.

short answer

A Handwerksmeister or Industriemeister is a level 6 qualification in the German framework, so it is comparable to a bachelor in level, not in nature. France has no nationally standardised twin: the brevet de maîtrise is the closest in spirit, a licence professionnelle the closest in level. No French employer or university is obliged to treat it as a licence.

questions people actually ask

Is a Meister equal to a bachelor's degree?
It sits at the same framework level, 6. It is not a bachelor's degree and gives no automatic right to the title or to a master's programme.
Will a French employer accept a Meister?
Nothing obliges them to, and many have never seen the title. Naming the level and the scope on the CV does most of the work.
What is the French equivalent I should write on my CV?
Write the German title, then one line: level 6 of the European framework, comparable to a licence professionnelle. Do not translate it as a diploma you do not hold.
